Innovation and Creativity Generates More San Jose CA Jobs
San Jose started out as a sleepy little farming town and is now the third largest city in California and the tenth largest in the whole of the United States. San Jose was actually the first capital of California when it gained statehood in 1850 and the increasing demands for residential housing from soldiers and veterans returning from World War II spawned an aggressive expansion in the next two decades through the annexing of more land.
The 1990s saw San Jose become a capital again – this time the Capital of Silicon Valley because of the technology industry that was making headlines there. Not surprisingly, high-tech engineering, computer, and microprocessor companies are still the main stay of San Jose CA jobs and the surrounding schools like University of California, Berkeley, University of California, Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, San Francisco State University, California State University, East Bay, Santa Clara University, and the prestigious Stanford University concentrate on molding top engineering and computer science graduates every year to fill that need.
San Jose has 25 companies with headquarters or regional offices in the area, including IT giants like Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Cisco, Acer, eBay, Flextronics, and Hitachi. And since shipping affects all these manufacturers, the San Jose International Airport is of great importance. Cargo passing through the airport weighs more than 5 million pounds annually and several cargo carriers and air freight services operate there. Land support for shipping is supplied by two freight lines and many motor freight carriers that operate within and through the city. For this main reason, the airport was expanded, adding new concourses and parking garages to the support buildings, improving the terminals and roadways of the existing ones, and adding an automated people mover. They expect to have about 17.6 million people passing through the airport annually.
Venture capital infuses a lot of income into the city, about 35% of all US funds. And San Jose residents are extremely innovative – they produce more US patents than any other city in the country. This tradition of careful financial management earned the city accolades and high credit ratings from Wall Street.
Most recently, it had been reported that while other sectors were forced to either lay off workers or cut their hours, Sunpower is planning to add jobs in 2010. While most of the manufacturing is done in the Philippines, the company is putting up a manufacturing facility in the area to add hundreds of San Jose CA jobs.
The only drawback to living in San Jose is the high cost of living, especially with residential real estate and other types of housing, which is one of the highest in the whole United States.
But the innovative spirit that runs the whole San Jose affects its community life, too. Not willing to settle for run-of-the-mill communities, the government and the private sector are working together to provide more to its citizenry than what is called for, which is also generating many San Jose CA jobs. To start with, $600 million is currently being invested into parks, libraries, and neighborhoods, and a variety of new housing is coming up. A myriad of housing and residential options are available for every lifestyle and pocket and a wide range of recreational activities are close by, with your choice of hiking, biking, boating, or shopping. The transportation systems are very convenient, with bus and rail transportation being where you need it. And the city provides a wide choice of cultural and entertainment activities. Educational and entertainment activities can be tried out at the San Jose Museum of Art, including important exhibits hosted throughout the year. Sports fan will feel at home at the San Jose Sports Arena to watch baseball and hockey games or music concerts during the off season. The parks are first class and the government closely monitors the quality of the community centers that are dotted around the city.
San Jose is a pioneering green community with the distinction of recycling more waste than they dispose of, being the safest big city in the nation, the first city in America to ensure health care for all children, and the best prepared for any emergency. The fact that you can walk anywhere when you’re downtown contributes to the special feeling of energy that permeates San Jose. It sets the standard for every other city because the people themselves are innovative, creative, and tolerant. In a place where everyone is valuable, there is no better place to live, work, and raise a family.
